Smyth, Stubbe Earn Wins at Pac-12 Championship

OJAI, Calif. -

Arizona women's tennis juniors Lacey Smyth (Oceanside, Calif.) and Kim Stubbe (Mol, Belgium) both earned wins at the 2013 Women's Tennis Pac-12 Championships on Thursday in Ojai, Calif.

Smyth defeated the country's 32nd-ranked player, Zoe Scandalis, 6-0, 6-4, while Stubbe defeated Oregon's #102 Nicole Long, 6-1, 6-4. 

Smyth and Stubbe advanced to the second round of the bracket, but fell in their respective matches.

Junior Akilah James (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and sophomore Laura Oldham (Sheffield, England) also competed in singles play for the Wildcats, but both fell in the first round.

The Pac-12 Championships will continue on Friday with doubles play. James and Stubbe will compete for Arizona at 10 a.m. against California's Chui and Davis.
