TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona women's golf welcomed Sandra Nordaas to the Wildcat family as a part of the 2016 recruiting class. Nordaas is from Oslo, Norway and attends Wang Toppidrett School. Nordaas is currently ranked 13th in Europe for under the age of 18 according to europeangolfrankings.com.
She has 11,842.40 points in the European Golf Rankings with an average score of 73.67 after participating in four events. She is ranked 123rd for Women's Amateur Golf in the world averaging 985.86 points.
Head Coach Laura Ianello is very excited with this addition to the Wildcat team.
“Coach Derek Radley and I are happy to have Sandra Nordaas join our team in the fall of 2016," Ianello said. " Sandra is one of the best female European players and represented her country proudly in the Jr. Solheim Cup for team Europe this past October. Sandra has an impressive resume and has won at the highest level. Her most recent victory is at the 2015 British Girls Championship in Scotland. We are excited to see how she will impact our strong Arizona lineup in the coming years.”
Nordaas' biggest accomplishments include being the current 2015 British Girls Junior Championship. During the championship, she was bogey-free and beat fellow competitor Marta Perez from Spain. Nordaas had six birdies and finished 6-under par in winning 2 and 1.
Aside from participating in the Girls' British Open Amateur Championship 2015, Nordaas has participated in three other events. These events include the Annika Invitational- Europe 2015 where she placed 5th with a three day total of 217 (+1), the European Girls' Team Championships 2015 finishing with a two day total of 151 and earning 24th place and the German Girls 2015 recording a final scoore of 149 earning 37th place.
Nordaas was also chosen to compete in Germany in the 2015 Junior Solheim Cup to represent Team Europe. She is a member of the Norwegian National Team as well. She represented her country this past October in the prestigious Sprit Event where Norway tied for 16th place.
Assistant Coach Derek Radley was also excited to welcome Nordaas to Tucson.
“Coach Ianello and I are beyond excited to have Sandra join our Wildcat family," Radley said. "Sandra is a true competitor and has no fear on the golf course. She has built an incredible resume obtaining success at the highest junior level. We know that with her work ethic and love for the game, she will be a perfect fit for our program.”
Nordaas will officially become a Wildcat in the fall of 2016.
