TUCSON, Ariz.--- The bats exploded for both sides, but was junior Sawyer Gieseke's game-high four doubles that made the difference, as Team Wild claimed its second straight win in the series, defeating Team Cats 62-36 in game two of the Wild vs. Cats Fall World Series, Friday night out at Hi Corbett Field.
Team Wild now holds an overall 101-57 advantage over Team Cats heading into Sunday's series finale. The score is based upon Arizona baseball's unique scoring system and is a running total over the three combined games. For traditional baseball scorers, Team Wild took down Team Cats 8-5 in game two.
Gieseke led all batters with four knocks in five plate appearances (all doubles), while he drove in a game-high three runs, while scoring one. Senior Justin Behnke, Zach Gibbons, and freshman Alfonso Rivas all produced multi-hit performances while combining for four runs scored. Rivas is now 6-of-10 from the plate in the series.
On the pitching side of things for the Wild, the freshman trio of Matt Flynn, Austin Rubick, and Trent Johnson combined to limit the offensive success for Team Cats, as no pitcher surrendered more than two earned runs on the night.
For Team Cats, it was a balanced offensive attack, as seven of eight batter collected at least one hit, while Cody Ramer, Jared Oliva, Ryan Aguilar, and Casey Bowman all recorded three knocks.
Aguilar led the way, going 3-of-5 from the dish with a team-high two RBI, while Ramer drove in a run and scored twice.
Freshman Randy Labaut pitched well in relief for Team Cats, as he tossed a scoreless inning and recorded a punch out.
The two sides will wrap up the 2015 Wild vs. Cats World Series, Sunday at 1 pm MST out at Hi Corbett Field.
