TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona swimming opened up the Texas Invitational on Wednesday with wins in both the men and women's relays.
The two events on Wednesday were the men and women's 800 free relay. The team of Taylor Schick, Bonnie Brandon, Cameron McHugh and Daniela Georges was victorious for the women, touching in 7:01.50, the fastest time in the country thus far this season. Their time was two seconds faster than last year's relay, and only two seconds over the school record. The team also recorded Arizona's first NCAA 'A' cut of the season.
Katrina Konopka, Sarah Shimomura, Jenna Bauer and Emma McCarthy placed fifth as Arizona's 'B' team with 7:10.13.
For the men, the team of Riccardo Maestri, Thane Maudslien, Parks Jones and Nick Thorne took first with a time of 6:22.76, which was six seconds faster than last year's best relay. They also earned an NCAA 'B' cut in the event.
Grant Sanders, Mathias Oh, Nick Hogsed and Chris Wieser finished fourth in the event, touching in 6:28.11.
The Texas Invitational continues Thursday starting at 8 a.m. MST for prelims and 5 p.m. for finals.
