Bernard Lagat Wins 5K and Will Represent the U.S in 2016 Olympics

At 41 years of age Arizona’s volunteer assistant coach Bernard Lagat qualified for his fifth Olympics after winning the 5,000-meter race at the U.S Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

EUGENE, Ore. –  At 41 years of age Arizona's volunteer assistant coach Bernard Lagat qualified for his fifth Olympics after winning the 5,000-meter race at the U.S Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

He is headed to Rio de Janiero, Brazil after clocking in at 13:35.50. He finished incredibly strong with a 52.82 second split in his final lap.

Lagat currently holds the American Record in the 5,000-meter race at 12:53.60. The 2016 Summer Olympics will begin on August 5th.
