One might consider her the backbone of the team. Julia Patterson, the star sophomore setter from Los Alamitos, California, has been a major presence on the court this year for the Wildcats.

Patterson has started 25 games for the Wildcats this season, the most out of anyone on the team. In the process, she has accumulated 958 assists and 56 kills.

Julia Patterson sat down with ArizonaWildcats.com to reflect on the season as it comes to a close.

As we approach the end of the season, what's the biggest thing you can take away from this year?

I think the biggest thing I will take away from this year is that no matter the outcomes, if a person continues to put in work every day, eventually they will get the outcomes they deserve and reach their full potential.

What is the biggest difference from this year to your freshman season?

I think the biggest difference for me from last year to this year is adjusting to the responsibilities that come with being the starting setter. It's a lot different having to step into a leadership position being a sophomore. It's been a fun challenge for me.

What kind of leadership role have you taken being the setter and with the young team that you have?

Being on a young team, while still being young myself, I think I've tried to just take it day by day and reach out more to players to try to understand how they feel or think. I am still trying to figure out the ways I can be the best leader for our team.

What's your favorite thing about Coach Rubio?

My favorite thing about Dave is how much patience he has. He truly cares about the developments of every player as a person and as a volleyball player. This season has been rough for everyone, but he constantly tells us to just respect the process and with time we will be rewarded.

What's the best part about playing volleyball at the University of Arizona?

Playing volleyball here is so special. The atmosphere of McKale is awesome because of all our fans. It is truly an awesome experience.
