TUCSON, Ariz. – A school-record five members of the Arizona volleyball team were honored for their academic achievements by the Pac-12, receiving Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention, the league announced on Thursday.

Senior McKenzie Jacobson, sophomore Makenna Martin, sophomore Julia Patterson, redshirt freshman Elizabeth Shelton and sophomore Victoria Svorinic were honored by the Pac-12 for their academic and athletic success.

To be eligible for selection to the All-Academic squad, a student-athlete must have a minimum of a 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's matches.

Jacobson, a nutritional sciences major from Fresno, California, has a 3.05 GPA and is scheduled to graduate this spring. This is Jacobson's fourth consecutive season receiving Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention honors. The senior averaged 1.17 kills/set on a team-best .362 hitting this season while providing 0.72 blocks/set.

Martin, a pre-education major from Gilbert, Arizona with a 3.10 GPA, led Arizona in digs this season with 267 (2.87/set). The sophomore, who had double-digit digs in 12 of her final 15 matches of the season, had nine aces and 49 assists on the year.

Patterson, a pre-business major from Los Alamitos, California with a 3.54 GPA, finished fifth in the Pac-12 with 10.14 assists/set in her first season as UA's setter. The sophomore, who saw action in 99 of UA's 109 sets on the year, had 12 double-doubles, tied for seventh most in the league.

Shelton, a neuroscience and cognitive science major from Edwards Air Force Base, California with a 3.56 GPA, had a very strong freshman season for the Cats. Shelton finished fourth on the team with 2.01 kills/set and 0.66 blocks/set in 93 sets for UA.

Svorinic, a political science major from Scottsdale, Arizona with a 3.20 GPA, saw action in 60 of Arizona's 109 sets in 2017. She had three aces and 22 digs on the year.
