Tucson, Ariz. – The University of Arizona track and field program held their annual Winter All-Comer's Meet on Saturday, Dec 9th. at Roy P. Drachman Stadium. The white team won the scrimmage for the second year in a row, earning 171 points. The red team came in second with 162 points and the blue team finished in third with 96 points.
"The biggest highlight is Jordan Geist throwing 20 meters," said head track and field coach Fred Harvey. "That is a huge throw this time of year and that is the type of athlete we know that he is. Overall, we had some great performances. Zakee Washington doubled in the 150 and the 600 then came back and ran a great leg in the 4x300s. He is a young man that we are going to depend on a lot on because he has that versatility and he is that talented. We just have to keep him heading in the right direction. Brena Andrews had a great day, she ran under 7.50 in the 60 meters, which is a great early season mark for her. She came back and ran a great leg in the 4x300. Those are two components we are really excited about. In the hurdles, Tiana Bonds ran a seasonal best 8.57, which is huge for this time of the year. Our jumpers did extremely well, and one that I am excited about is Imani Lee. He won the 60, which excites me more than how far he jumps because he is now our fastest 60-meter runner and he is going to be one of our best jumpers. Our distance runners are doing great coming off their cross country season, but watching how well Claire Green and Addi (Zerrenner) handled the 1000 and 3000 was very satisfying. The two guys that I thought ran really well were Colins Kibet, and we are going to need him to be the type of indoor team I think we are going to be, and Bailey Roth. Overall, I think this was a great All-Comers meet for us."
Geist, the first selection made in the 2017 Red White and Blue draft, made his Drachman debut throwing a 20.63m mark to take first in the shot put event. The mark would put him first in the NCAA indoor rankings. The freshman standout also tabbed a first place finish for the blue team in the discus throw with a 53.67m mark and took second hammer throw after throwing a mark of 53.67m.
"Jordan all fall has been getting a little bit better every week and we were definitely hoping for 20 meters today," said throws coach TJ Crater. "We were hoping that throughout the indoor season he would break his indoor PR. It reassured, or felt like it all paid off at the right time. He had a good series, threw really well and add the hammer throw on top of that. The shot was absolutely outstanding."
