Tucson, Ariz. – The University of Arizona track and field program will open the 2018 indoor season on Friday, January 12th at the Friday Night Duels, hosted by Northern Arizona University. Competition is set to begin at 3 p.m. MST at NAU's Walkup Skydome.

"We are pretty excited about getting the season started up at NAU in the Friday Night Duels," said head track and field coach Fred Harvey. "The competition will not be the highest level of competition from all of the institutions. ASU will be there, NAU will be there, but everyone is trying to get their feet wet and see what they have on their teams and how they formulate their travel rosters from that point on. For us, I want to see all of our young athletes who have never competed at the collegiate level. I want to see how they respond to travel and how they respond to now racing against someone legitimately in another uniform. We have some elite athletes from high school so it will not faze them that much. A guy like Jordan Geist has been at much higher level of competition, but this is the first time he will put on a collegiate uniform and each throw will mean something. The Red White and Blue meet meant something, but we all know it was just to see what he can do. These marks go into the books as his first collegiate throw and goes towards NCAA rankings and those types of things. I am really excited to see what our sprinters do this weekend. They had a great fall and this is a great place to sprint. We will get a chance to see how we formulate our relays. We will split the teams up and get a good idea of what the teams will look like. "
