CHULA VISTA, Calif.- Arizona completed the final round of the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic in 6th place, scoring 877 (+13). Sophomore Trevor Werbylo tabbed his fifth top ten finish of the season, rising from 30th after the first round. His final score of 213 is his second lowest of the season.
"We didn't finish off our round as well as we are capable," commented head coach Jim Anderson. "Trevor played great today and we had a fury of birdies and eagles on the back nine showing how much fight we have as a team. We kept the ball in position but for the week, didn't make enough putts. We have to find our confidence to get ready for NIT at home next week."
Werbylo continues his strong play this spring, tying for 4th and going three-under during the tournament. Throughout the two-day event, Werbylo notched 13 birdies and made par 32 times to keep him within the top competitors in the field. The Tucson locals' final round score of 67 was the third lowest in the competition.
Junior Briggs Duce finished tied in 30th, five-over in the competition for a final score of 221(+5). Duce made three eagles during the tournament, the most in the competition. Also finishing in 30th was individual competitor, freshman Santeri Lehesmaa.
Other score for the Cats included a six-over, 222 from Brad Reeves and a nine-over, 225 from David Laskin.
Coming up next for the Cats is their second home tournament of the year, the National Invitational (N.I.T) at Omni Tucson National starting Monday, March 18th.
