PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Day one of the ASU PING Invitational ended with two Wildcats in the top 15 of the individual competition.
Freshman Ya Chun Chang delivered another solid first-day performance, recording two birdies and two bogeys on her way to an even-par 72. Junior Sandra Nordaas tallied four birdies to match Chang with a first-round score of 72. Chang and Nordaas currently sit in a tie for 15th. Senior Desiree Hong carded a 9-over 81 putting her in a tie for 78th.
"Money and Sandy played very well as the conditions got extremely tough during the last 9 holes with higher winds," said head coach Laura Ianello. "Tomorrow we hope to dominate the par 5s and play the par 3s a little better. The greens are rolling fast and I assume the team's scores will continue to be low. All in all, a good day for Money and Sandy, and they will climb the leaderboard the next two days."
Round two begins tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. MST.
