AUSTIN, Texas – The Wildcats successfully completed Day 2 of the Texas Invitational Thursday night. The Cats notched 31 NCAA B cuts, 16 for the women and 15 for the men.
Brooks Fail is now the ninth-fastest 500 freestyler in Arizona school history.
Mackenzie Rumrill now holds Arizona's ninth-fastest mark and
Nick Thorne is fourth on the school record list in their respective 200 IM events.
The women's A team (
Jamie Stone,
Katrina Konopka,
Kayla Filipek, and
Morgan Ginnis) opened up Day 2 of the Texas Invitational afternoon slate with a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, narrowly missing the podium by one one-hundredth of a second. The women's B team (
Laura Kurki,
Ashley Sutherland,
Paige Kremer, and
Zohar Shikler) and men's A team (
Gabriel Cardenes,
Chatham Dobbs,
Jorge Iga, and
Chad Idensohn) both finished fifth.
Hannah Cox placed second in the 500 free at 4:39.49.
Daniela Georges,
Kirsten Jacobsen,
Jenna Bauer,
Emma McCarthy, and
Claire Lockridge also earned NCAA B cuts.
Fail finished fourth in the men's 500 free with a time of 4:16.21. The freshman moved into ninth on UA's all-time list. Fail,
Chris Wieser,
Brendan Meyer,
Jerad Kaskawal, and
Isaac Stump all earned NCAA B qualifiers.
Rumrill earned an NCAA B cut in the women's 200 IM, good for seventh in the race and moves the junior to ninth on Arizona's all-time list.
Cameron McHugh placed fourth in the C final with 2:00.77 (NCAA B cut).
Thorne finished second in the men's 200 IM at 1:42.76. This time, an NCAA B cut, moved the senior to fourth in school history.
Sam Iida,
Riccardo Maestri,
Steven Medvedev, and
Mathias Oh all earned NCAA B cuts as well.
Konopka placed fourth (22.55) and Stone tied for sixth (22.68) in the 50 free. Kurki, Sutherland, Ginnis, Filipek, and Shikler also earned NCAA B cuts.
Cardenes placed second (19.81) in the C final of the 50 free, while Iga placed fourth (19.97) in the C final and
Parks Jones finished first in the E final at 20.16, all earning NCAA B cuts.
The women's 400 medley relay A team, comprised of Konopka,
Mallory Korenwinder, Rumrill, and Stone, placed third at 3:33.52 (NCAA B cut).
Thomas Anderson,
Matthew Salerno, Thorne, and Iga finished fourth for the men.
