Cats in Third as Play Resumes at Arizona Intercollegiate on Tuesday

TUCSON, Ariz.- The second round of the Arizona Intercollegiate was suspended due to darkness with the Cats in third place after a stellar 31 of 36 scheduled holes at Sewailo Golf Club, on Monday, January 29th. Leading the team is Tianlang Guan, who sits in eighth place going into the second day of competition.
"Today was an amazing test. Our team endured the ups and downs like everyone and have put ourselves in a good position," commented head coach Jim Anderson. "I am so impressed by the composure and guts showed in the afternoon. We have some areas to clean up but overall, I was very pleased with the way we played in very tough conditions. Tomorrow will be our best but we told the guys to keep their patience too."
Guan finished the day four over par, through the first round and 12 holes into the second, leading him to stay in the top ten. The freshman ranked in top top three in par three and par four scoring. He totaled six birdies on the day, putting him in the top three ranked players in that category as well.
Senior George Cunningham and sophomore Brad Reeves had redeeming second rounds, both currently tied in 14th. Cunningham went seven over in the first round, to then birdie four times in the second and make even par. Reeves had a similarly successful second round, scoring one under, with three birdies, erasing a deficit of eight over par form the first.
Sophomore David Laskin changed the momentum for the Cats in the second, being one of only seven individuals to eagle in the competition thus far, on par four, hole 9. With three birdies in the round, Laskin was four under and is tied in 32nd place.
Freshman Trevor Werbylo played through 11 holes at one over par in the second round, and is tied for 41st (+11).
Individual competitors juniors Dylan Stein and Travis Fredborg both placed in the top 25, respectively tied for 14th and 25th.
The second round will resume tomorrow at 8 a.m. MST, followed by the final round and the award ceremony. Admission will be free, and carts will be available on a limited basis for spectator use with a fee.
