Desireé Reed-Francois

Desireé Reed-Francois was named the R. Ken Coit Director of Athletics at the University of Arizona in 2024 and quickly positioned Arizona Athletics as one of the most competitive and financially ascendant programs in the country.

An alumna of the University of Arizona College of Law, she has led a comprehensive transformation of the athletics department, aligning competitive excellence and student-athlete development with long-term financial sustainability.

Under her leadership, Arizona is coming off one of the most successful seasons in school history, highlighted by a second straight triathlon national championship, the first men’s basketball Final Four berth in 25 years, the first men’s golf Final Four appearance since 2004, and the first Elite Eight appearance for men’s tennis in school history. In all, 18 Wildcat programs advanced to postseason play and Arizona captured the Allstate Big 12 Commissioner’s Cup for the first time in school history.

Equally significant has been the department’s financial turnaround, reflecting a disciplined and strategic approach to revenue generation and operational efficiency. After inheriting a $39 million deficit, Arizona is now on pace to fully balance its budget thanks in large part to a record-setting revenue year.

The department raised $49.5 million through the Wildcat Club in 2025-26, breaking the previous record of $41 million in 2022. That number exceeds the Wildcat Club's nine-year annual average by more than 60 percent. Additionally, Arizona Sports Enterprises -- the department’s in-house multimedia rights arm -- secured a combined $87.7 million in naming rights agreements in a single year, anchored by a $60 million-plus partnership establishing Casino Del Sol Stadium and a $27.7 million agreement transforming McKale Center into McKale Center at ALKEME Arena. Arizona also recently signed a long-term extension with Nike through 2033, reinforcing the school’s position as a premier national brand and deepening a strategic partnership that supports performance innovation, recruiting, and global visibility. These landmark deals represent the largest publicly known sponsorships of their kind in Big 12 history and underscore Arizona’s emergence as a national leader in innovation and revenue generation.

The momentum extends to the classroom. Arizona student-athletes posted a record 3.413 grade point average in Spring 2026, breaking the school record set the previous semester while extending a program-record streak of semesters with a GPA above 3.0. Three teams – baseball, men’s track and field and volleyball – registered their highest-ever semester GPA, 77 percent of student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA or higher, and 22 percent achieved a perfect 4.0.

Arizona student-athletes combined to devote 3,355 hours of community service this past school year, developing leadership skills while impacting lives and strengthening ties with the greater University of Arizona and Tucson community.

Her tenure included more than $70 million in facility upgrades, the opening of a $35 million on-campus football training complex, and a landmark partnership with the National Football League’s Las Vegas Raiders tied to Allegiant Stadium. She hired multiple head coaches who earned conference Coach of the Year honors and elevated the overall competitiveness, visibility, and infrastructure of UNLV Athletics.
