Cats Set to Host N.I.T at Omni Tucson National

TUCSON, Ariz.- Arizona's second home tournament of the year, the National Invitational Tournament (N.I.T) is set to begin this upcoming Monday, March 18th. The competition will be held at Omni Tucson National on the 7,262 yard, par 72 Catalina Course. Tee time is set for an 8 a.m. MST with a shotgun start, with the first two rounds played on Monday, and the final round on Tuesday.

"The NIT is an outstanding event and another opportunity for our team to prepare for the championships we are moving toward," commented head coach Jim Anderson. " The golf course is fantastic and the weather warm, sunny forecast is typical for Tucson this time of year.  Besides our team preparing and playing great golf on a course with so much history, the event attracts other top programs and players.  We are looking forward to improving on some of the mistakes we had last week on a course we are very confident playing, and familiar scoring on.  Traditionally, scores are low at Omni so we have will need to be aggressive and confident all week.  Playing at home is an incredible privilege and this tournament gives many Wildcat fans and avid golfers a chance to see college golf at its finest this week."

The N.I.T will contain a field of 16 elite teams, including top ranked programs like Arizona State (4), Oklahoma (5), and Southern California (7). Rounding out the field are: Colorado, Colorado State, Iowa State, New Mexico, North Texas, San Diego, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah, UTEP, Washington State and Wyoming. Some of college golf's elite individual and amateur competitors like Justin Suh (USC), Chun An Yu (ASU), Riley Casey (Ok.), and Arizona's own, Trevor Werbylo, will face off in the two day tournament.

Sophomore Trevor Werbylo, junior David Laskin, junior Briggs Duce, senior Ethan Marcus and senior Travis Fredborg makeup the lineup for the Cats. Junior Brad Reeves, freshmen Santeri Lehesmma and Joe Parrini, and senior Dylan Stein will be competing as invidividuals. Last year's squad finished in third, led by then-senior George Cunningham, who placed 7th, and Werbylo, who tied in 9th for his highest finish of his freshman campaign.
