Kingdon's Indoor and Sand Triumphs Stand Alone

Madi Kingdon is the only player in the country to be named an All-American in both sand and indoor volleyball

TUCSONArizona volleyball's Madi Kingdon recently completed one of the greatest indoor careers in school history, and supplemented her indoor prestige with an impressive pair of seasons on Arizona's sand volleyball team. During the 2014-15 season, Kingdon became the only player in the country to be named an All-American in both indoor and sand volleyball.

The sand volleyball program, heading into its third season with head coach Steve Walker, offers Arizona's indoor players the unique opportunity to compete on the sand during the spring, an opportunity that Kingdon made the most of in her final two seasons on campus.

For four seasons indoors, Kingdon put together one of the most productive careers in school history, leading Arizona to three NCAA Tournament appearances, culminating in 2014 with Arizona's best season since 2005.

Kingdon averaged 5.33 kills/set, good for fourth nationally in 2014. The senior led the country in total attacks with 1,813. She also averaged 3.54 digs per set and recorded 18 double-doubles, including one in each of Arizona's final 10 matches. The Phoenix, Ariz., native led the team with 698.5 points on the season. Kingdon played more matches in her career than any other player in Arizona history (129) and leaves UA No. 2 in both career kills (1,943) and career digs (1,366).

For her efforts, Kingdon was also named first-team all-region, all-Pac-12 and a Senior CLASS Award finalist.

In the sand, the senior posted a 24-3 record with teammate Kaitlyn Leary, leading the club to a top-10 ranking in just the program's second year. For their plaudits Kingdon and Leary were selected to compete in the AVCA Sand Volleyball Pairs Championship. After advancing out of pool play, the duo competed in the 16-pair event for the title. Kingdon and Leary won two matches to advance to the final four and earn AVCA All-America honors, making Kingdon the only player in the country to be named an All-American in both indoor and sand volleyball.
