San Diego, Calif. – The University of Arizona track and field program competed in the opening day of the Aztec Invitational on Friday, March 23rd. Leading the Cats in day one of the contest were
Umajesty Williams,
Tyrell Johnson, and
Zakee Washington.
Williams, Johnson, Washington, and
Isaac Hing took four of the top-five spots in the 200-meter dash contest. Williams finished first setting a new PR with a mark of 20.86, good for a share of No. 4 on the NCAA list. Johnson took third, setting a new PR with a time of 21.33. Washington clocked a time of 21.40, good for a fourth place finish. Hing checked in at fifth place with a time of 21.55.
In the 100-meter dash,
Brena Andrews and Johnson won the men's and women's contest. Andrews clocked a time of 11.88. Johnson checked in with a mark of 10.70.
Andrews took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.92.
Tatum Waggoner finished in second place with a mark og 24.16.
Savaughn Christman ran a time of 24.47 to finish in fifth place.
Kayla Ferron and
Sarah Tyler concluded day one of the competition earning PRs in their respective events. Ferron ran a time of 10:54.30 to take third in the 3K steeple chase. Tyler competed in the 1500-meter run contest, clocking a time of 4:40.37.
