Deandre Ayton and
Allonzo Trier received All-American nods from the Associated Press to round out the latest wave of national accolades for the 2017-18 Arizona Wildcats. Ayton was voted the AP's First Team All-America was Trier was an All-America Honorable Mention.
Trier, a junior from Seattle, was a Pac-12 First Team All-Conference selection after averaging 18.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. The guard ended the regular season as one of just three players in the nation to shoot at least 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from behind the arc and 85 percent at the foul line. He opened his junior season with five consecutive games of 20 points or more while earning Pac-12 Player of the Week honors after tallying back-to-back games of 30 or more points to open the season.
Ayton becomes a consensus First Team All-American with the AP selection after earning the same honor from the NABC, USBWA and Sporting News. The freshman averaged 20.1 points and 11.6 rebounds per game while shooting 61.6 percent from the field. Ayton was the first player in the history of the Pac-12 Conference to earn Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Most Outstanding Player of the conference tournament in the same season. The two-time Pac-12 Player of the Week rewrote numerous pages in the Arizona Basketball record book, including becoming the first Wildcat since Al Fleming in 1975-76 to record a game of 20 or more points and 20 or more rebounds with his 26 points and 20 rebounds versus California on Senior Day. The Bahamas native also becomes the first Arizona player to earn first team distinction in the AP's All-America honors since Jason Terry in 1999.
