TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona gymnastic was victorious in their quad meet against UNC, Air Force, and San Jose State. The cats won with a final score of 195.725, earning a 49.000 or higher on the uneven bars and balance beam.
San Jose State finished second with a 195.025, North Carolina finished third with a 194.850, and Air Force finished fourth with a 194.275.
"Tonight was a good stepping stone for our next few weeks," said head coach
John Court. "Beam was good for the second week in a row, but we need to step it up on all four events, not just one. We're looking forward to building off our momentum from tonight when we head to LSU next week."
The Beam Queens Take Charge in McKale:
The Cats took to the beam during the third rotation, earning an event score of 49.275 (the second highest score this season).
Haylie Hendrickson led the rotation with a 9.800, and she was followed by
Maddi Leydin (9.775) and
Kennady Schneider (9.825). Sophomore
Courtney Cowles turned up the heat with a 9.850, and seniors
Victoria Ortiz and
Madison Cindric both contributed 9.900's.
This follows Arizona's record-breaking beam score last week against Arkansas. The team earned an event score of 49.525, highest in school history.
Berg Earns Gold on Bars:
Sophomore
Christina Berg anchored on the uneven bars for Arizona to score a big 9.900, earning herself first place in the competition. This is the third time this season Berg has earned a 9.900 or higher on bars, scoring a 9.925 last week against Arkansas for a new career high. Berg also scored a 9.750 on floor.

Maddi Leydin brought home second on bars with a 9.825, and juniors
Haylie Hendrickson and
Danielle Spencer tied for third with a pair of 9.800's.
Cindric and Ortiz Earn Gold on Beam:

Madison Cindric and
Victoria Ortiz tied for first place on the balance beam with a pair of 9.900's. Sophomore
Courtney Cowles took home second place with a 9.850, and senior
Kennady Schneider took home third with a 9.825.
Cindric and Leydin Compete in the All-Around:

Maddi Leydin participated in the all-around competition in tonight's meet. Cindric brought home first place with a 39.200, and Leydin took second with a 39.125. This was the first meet this season where Arizona took home first and second in the all-around. Third place went to Taylor Chan from San Jose State who scored a 39.025.
Cindric also earned a 9.825 on vault, 9.775 on bars, 9.900 on beam, and 9.700 on floor. Leydin earned a 9.750 on vault, 9.825 on bars, 9.775 on beam, and a 9.775 on floor.
