Tucson, Ariz. – The University of Arizona Track and Field program hosted the first ever Desert Heat Classic on Saturday, April 28th. Leading the Cats at Roy P. Drachman Stadium were freshman Jordan Geist, senior Isaac Hing, junior David Egbo, and sophomore Pamela White.
 
Geist competed in the shot put event, taking first place in the competition with a mark of 20.41m. The freshman's mark is good for an outdoor PR, the No. 2 mark on Arizona's all time list, and the No. 1 spot on the NCAA and Pac-12 lists. Geist finished second in the discus throw with a mark of 55.99m, good for a new PR in the event.
 
Hing, Egbo, and White all clocked new PRs in the 100 and 200-meter dashes. Egbo checked in with a mark of 10.59 in the 100-meter dash and 21.34 in the 200-meter dash. Hing clocked a time of 10.67 in the 100-meter dash and 21.30 in the 200-meter dash. White checked in with a time of 11.90 in the 100-meter dash and 24.25 in the 200-meter dash.
 
Turner Washington earned first place honors in the discus throw with a mark of 56.60m. The Tucson native's mark is good for a new PR, and No. 1 mark in the Pac-12 Conference. Grayson Fleming took first in the hammer throw with a mark of 63.92m, good for the No. 4 mark in the Pac-12 Conference. Fleming also set a PR in the discus throw with a mark of 53.42m
 
Alyssa Thompson set a PR in the long jump with a mark of 6.24m, good for a second-place finish. Kaelyn Shipley took first in the javelin throw with a mark of 44.41m, Teagan Rasche followed in second with a mark of 44.05m, good for a new PR.
 
Up next, Alyssa Thompson and Dominic Gehr will compete in the Pac-12 Multi-Events Championships on May 5th in Palo Alto, Calif.
