TUCSON--Leneah Manuma provided some power with two home runs and Jenny
Gladding tossed a two-hitter to lead No. 3 Arizona to a five inning 11-0
victory over Eastern Michigan in Arizona's Worth Wildcat Invitational
softball tournament Friday afternoon.
Two freshmen got the Wildcats their first run to start a four-run rally in
the third inning. Crystal Farley hit a bunt single, and scored on Carrie
Hagen's opposite-field double to left-center. After Jennie Finch walked,
Manuma hit her sixth home run of the season to left.
In the fourth, Allyson Von Lichetenstein led off with a single, stole
second and scored on Lovie Jung's single. Carrie Hagen singled up the
middle and Jennie Finch walked to load the bases for Manuma's second blast,
a pulled shot to deep right.
The rally continued as Mackenzie Vandergeest walked, Jackie Coburn singled
and pinch-hitter Candance Abrams drove in a run with a single to make it
10-1. In the fifth, pinch-hitter Rebekah Quiroz singled in another run.
The Cats (13-2) had 12 hits and played without their leading hitter,
freshman left fielder Courtney Fossatti (.475), sidelined for at least
several weeks and possibly more while a stress fracture in her right foot
heals.
Jillian Raines and Lauren Allen had the two hits, both singles, off
Gladding (5-2) for EMU (1-1). Tiffany Brown (0-1)took the loss.
