TUCSON - Jenny Gladding pitched a two-hitter and the bottom and top of
Arizona's lineup drove in the bulk of the runs in a 10-0 softball victory
over Eastern Michigan Wednesday afternoon.
The Cats (18-2) extended their school-record home winning streak to 58
games. Eastern Michigan dropped to 2-6 overall.
UA scored four runs on four hits in the second, with an RBI double by
Mackenzie Vandergeest, a run-scoring single by Crystal Farley and a two-run
double by leadoff batter Lovie Jung.
EMU brought in its top pitcher, Marcy Mobley, to replace starter Kristen
Anderson in the top of the third, but the move didn't stop the Cats. UA
scored five more runs, started by a bases-loaded walk by Jackie Coburn, a
passed ball, a two-run single by nine-hole hitter Allyson Von Lichtenstein
and a run-scoring single by Jung.
UA added an unearned run in the fourth after back-to-back one-out errors
by Eastern Michigan.
The Eagles had a single by Kristen Zabalavicius in the second and a single
by Christie Koester in the fourth for their only baserunners against
Gladding, who struck out nine in the five-inning game. Gladding has won her
last five decisions after losing two in Phoenix early this month.
