TUCSON - All-American Jenny Finch gave up a hit to the first batter in the game, then blanked the Boston College Eagles the rest of the way for a one-hitter en route to a 9-0 victory for No. 2-ranked Arizona Wednesday night.

In the meantime the Wildcats, who have won 65 consecutive home games, banged out eight hits in five innings including a couple of long balls that broke the game open in the second inning.

Boston College right fielder Jacqui Goodchild opened the game with a single up the middle off Finch, then the 2001 National Player of the Year settled down and allowed only one other base runner, pitcher Tekae Malandris who reached on an error in the third.

Lovie Jung and Allyson Von Lichtenstein led off the bottom of the first with singles, then Finch clouted a line drive over the right field fence for a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Finch hit a two-run single and UA chased BC starter Michelle Daly after she hit Leneah Manuma with a pitch, and Mackenzie Vandergeest greeted reliever Malandris with the Cats' 10th grand slam and 49th home run of the season to make it 9-0.

Arizona (25-2) has won 18 straight since losing two in Phoenix during a February tournament. The Eagles (3-12), dropped three to Arizona State and two to Arizona during a swing in the desert this week.

Finch won her 14th this season and extended her NCAA record to 54 consecutive victories. BC's Daly dropped her first decision of the year.
