TUCSON - Jade Lindly broke a no-hitter with a one-out solo home run in the
sixth inning off Arizona's Alicia Hollowell and OSU's Lauren Bay took care
of business in the circle for the Cowgirls, shutting down UA's bats for a
two-hitter and a 1-0 victory over the top-ranked Wildcats in Friday action
in the Worth Arizona Invitational tournament.
Lindly's hit was the first ball hit out of the infield and the only hit
off Hollowell (7-2), who struck out 14. Bay topped that by striking out 15
for OSU (5-4), and dropped Arizona to 14-2 overall.
Autumn Champion led off the bottom of the first with a high bouncer to
second and just beat the throw for an infield hit, which held up as the
only hit in the game through five innings. Courtney Fossatti singled to
short in the sixth for the only other hit off Bay.
Mackenzie Vandergeest drew a one-out in the UA seventh, but Bay struck out
Jackie Coburn and got Shelly Schultz to
ground to second for the final out.
Bay improved to 3-2 on the season.
The loss was Arizona's first in its various pre-season tournaments since
the 2000 season when it lost to No. 2 Washington, 1-0, on Feb. 5, 2000.
