Arizona Governs the Court Against Wichita State

TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 38 Arizona men's tennis team easily defeated Wichita State Friday, Feb. 12, 6-1. The Wildcats swept the doubles point for the fifth time this year, and won five of the six singles points. Arizona improves to 5-1 on the season, while Wichita State falls to 2-3.
In the doubles competition, Arizona swept all three matches earning the doubles point. The pair of junior Colin O'Grady and sophomore Roger Matalonga remains unbeaten this spring after defeating Boris Gubic and Carlo Contente, 8-3. The senior pair of Whi Kim and Tom Lloyd on court three also remains unbeaten after beating their Shocker opponents, Goran Vajaklija and Westin Hudnall, 8-3. The No. 1 team of junior Paul Warkentin and sophomore Daniel Andrus improved to 5-1 with a win over Juan Escalante and Gabriel Loredo, 8-2.
In singles, Andrus gave Arizona the 2-0 lead after defeating Juan Escalante with an ace for the final point on court five, 6-1, 6-2. O'Grady followed suit with a, 6-3, 6-4, win over Gabriel Loredo in the four spot. Matalonga stretched his winning-streak to six by beating Gabriel Loredo, 6-4, 6-4, on court three.
Warkentin fell 4-6 in the first set before battling back, 6-1, 6-2, in the next two sets to beat Westin Hudnall on court six.
Lloyd needed three sets to wear out Goran Vujaklija in the No. 2 position, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Wichita State earned their lone point on court one after Carlo Contente battled against Kim, winning, 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 (5).
Arizona will be back in action again Saturday, Feb. 14, when they host BYU. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m. at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
