
Arizona Men's Tennis Dominates Sacramento State

TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 38 Arizona men's tennis team improved to 3-1 after defeating Sacramento State, 7-0, Friday, Feb. 6. Arizona won all nine matches including the three doubles and six singles matches. Sacramento State fell to 0-1 after the loss.
In doubles competition, the duo of junior Paul Warkentin and sophomore Daniel Andrus defeated Nick Sheehan and Joakim Rydberg on court one, 8-5. In the No. 2 position, seniors Whi Kim and Tom Lloyd dispatched Peter Farkas and Ramon Perez, 8-3. On court three sophomores Roger Matalonga and Tim Mullane vanquished Matt Jones and Warwick Foy, 8-4.
In singles competition, the Wildcats only needed 13 sets to defeat the Hornets in all six matches. Kim handled Sheehan on court, 6-2, 6-0. In the No. 2 position Lloyd earned a victory over Jones, 6-3, 6-1. Matalonga in the three-hole squashed Rydberg, 6-0, 6-1, and improved to 4-0 on the season. Andrus won in the No. 4 position, beating Foy, 6-4, 6-2. Warkentin remains undefeated during spring competition after beating Farkas, 7-6 (7), 6-0. Mullane lost Arizona's only set 3-6, before defeating Perez, 7-6 (4), 10-8 in the super-tiebreaker.
Arizona takes the courts again Saturday, Feb. 7, as the Wildcats host UC Santa Barbara. First serve is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
