Wildcats Still in Contention at Stanford

Oct. 18, 2008

TUCSON, Ariz. - On a day when no team was able to break par, the Arizona women's golf team shot a solid +5 round of 289 to move up to a tie for 4th place at the Stanford/Pepsi Intercollegiate, Saturday afternoon at the Stanford Golf Course.

The Wildcats climbed the leaderboard to share 4th position with the host Cardinal, who posted a score of 292 on the day. UCLA continues to hold the team lead at 6-under 562 while Caroline Masson of OSU continues to hold the individual lead by three shots at 7-under after shooting a 1-under round of 70 this afternoon.

Brittany Benvenuto continued to excel on the par-71 course, shooting even par for the day to hold onto a share of 9th place overall. After opening with a trio of birdies through the first five holes, Benvenuto endured a +4 stretch on the back nine before rolling in a birdie on 18 to climb back to par.

Alejandra Llaneza finished the day at +2 to drop back to even par for the tournament in a tie for 17th place. She was another Wildcat to have a strong start, finishing the front side at -2 after birdies on the 4th and 9th holes. However, Llaneza had bogeys on 14 and 16, then endured a double bogey on the finishing hole.

Margarita Ramos stayed within striking distance of her teammates with a second even-par round of the day for the Wildcats after shooting 73 on Friday. She opened her round with three birdies over the first four holes, sandwiched around a bogey on the 2nd, then tallied consecutive bogeys on 13 and 14 to finish level for the day at 71.
