Cats Build 3-Shot Lead at Regionals

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Firing the low round for the second-straight day allowed Arizona to claim sole possession of first place after the second round of the 2010 NCAA West Regional, Friday afternoon at the Stanford Golf Course.

Arizona, ranked #7 in the latest NGCA Coaches' Poll, leads top-ranked UCLA by three shots and sits a full 10 strokes in front of third place Alabama. The Wildcats are 17-over par through two days of play after posting a Friday team total of 294.

Sophomore Nikki Koller and junior Alejandra Llaneza each shot 2-over par rounds of 73 to lead the way for the Wildcats. Koller is tied for 5th place overall at 2-over par, 3 strokes behind leader Madeleine Zeigert of San Jose State at 1-under par.

Llaneza is tied for 7th place with sophomore Margarita Ramos at 3-over par 145 after Ramos shot 3-over 74 on the day. Isabelle Boineau also finished the day with a round of 74 while Sherlyn Popelka shot 75 to join a host of players tied for 48th place at 10-over par.

Arizona looks for its 5th regional championship and first since 2001 on Friday, May 8 with Isabelle Boineau leading the five Wildcats to the first tee with a scheduled tee time of 9:06 a.m. (PT)
