Wildcats Win at PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe

TUCSON, Ariz. No. 8 Arizona women's golf picked up its second team title of the season with a victory at the PING/ASU Invitational on Sunday at Arizona State's Karsten Golf Course.

No. 8 Arizona finished three-under par with an 861 and daily rounds of 288, 276 and 297. No. 28 Baylor and No. 25 Arizona State shared a runner-up finish with scores of 868. No. 1 USC and No. 4 South Carolina shared a tie for fourth place with scores of 870 (+6). No. 32 Monica Vaughn of Arizona State and No. 55 Bertine Strauss of Texas shared the individual medal with scores of 210 (-6).

“I'm very proud of this team to keep the momentum going forward after our great finish at the Wildcat Invitational,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “Krystal (Quihuis) had a fantastic final round in tough conditions and Manon (Gidali) and Lindsey (Weaver) led the way throughout the weekend. We are excited to play at Pac-12 Championships next week and keep the momentum going.”

The Wildcats collected the sixth-best 54-hole team total in school history this weekend and earned their first win at this event since 2000. In a stacked field, UA finished ahead of No. 1 USC, No. 2 Washington, No. 3 UCLA, No. 4 South Carolina, No. 5 Duke and No. 7 Arkansas, as well as seven additional top 45 teams.

No. 26 senior Manon Gidali, No. 40 freshman Krystal Quihuis and No. 46 junior Lindsey Weaver were Arizona's top finishers in a tie for 10th place. The trio posted scores of 215 (-1).

Sophomore Wanasa Zhou finished tied for 20th with a 219 (+3). She posted daily rounds of 71, 70 and 78. Senior Andrea Vilarasau rounded out the Wildcats in a tie for 66th place. She carded a 228 (+12) with scores of 76, 77 and 75.

Senior Kendall Prince, competing as an individual, finished tied for 39th. She carded daily scores of 74, 74 and 75 for a total of 222 (+6).

The Wildcats will compete next at the Pac-12 Championships, hosted by Colorado, April 20-22.
