TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona women's golf took home the Pac-12 Conference title on Wednesday at Boulder Country Club. The squad won its eight Pac-12 Conference title (1992, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2010, 2015) and its first since the 2010 season.
“I'm so proud of this team effort,” head coach Laura Ianello said. “The ladies had a fantastic week, led by junior Lindsey Weaver and sophomore Wanasa Zhou today. The last four holes were crucial today and the team played smart and fought until the end.”
The sixth-ranked Wildcats finished with an 853 (+1) and rounds of 292, 282 and 279 for a five-stroke lead on the field. No. 28 Oregon earned a runner-up finish with an 858 (+6). No. 7 Washington rounded out the top three with an 861 (+9).
No. 34 junior Lindsey Weaver was Arizona's top finisher in a tie for second place. She shot a 208 (-5) with rounds of 72, 67 and 69. Her 67 (-4) from Tuesday's second round matched her season low.
No. 95 sophomore Wanasa Zhou paced the Cats on Wednesday with a 65 (-6) for the final round of play. She tied for the best round in Arizona history with Marisa Baena's 65 from the 1996 NCAA West Regional Championships at The Champions Golf Club (Omaha, Neb.). She finished in a tie for 10th place with a score of 214 (+1).
Kendall Prince carded a 218 (+5) with rounds of 74, 68 and 76. She finished tied for 18th and her 68 (-3) from Tuesday was her season low. No. 16 senior Manon Gidali and No. 25 freshman Krystal Quihuis shared 28th place with scores of 222 (+9). Gidali collected rounds of 72, 78 and 72 as Quihuis finished with rounds of 74, 75 and 73.
The one-hour Pac-12 Championship special will air Sun., May 3, at 11 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Networks.
The 2015 NCAA Regional selection sites will be announced Mon., April 27 live on the Golf Channel (4-5 p.m. PT). N.C. State, Notre Dame, UTSA and BYU will serve as regional hosts Thurs.-Sat., May 7-9.
