TUCSON, Ariz. – After an hour weather delay and suspension because of weather and darkness on Friday, round one of the NCAA Championships finally came to an end Saturday morning in Bradenton, Fla. The Concession Golf Club course proved to be a challenge for No. 5 Arizona women's golf and the entire field. All 24 teams shot over par with 20 of the 24 shooting over 300.
“Our ladies really hung tough today,” head coach Laura Ianello said on Friday. “We learned a lot about this course today and how to approach it for the rest of the tournament. This is a very challenging course. They were some holes that gave us issues. We left some shots out there and we will work hard tomorrow to get them back.”
No. 4 Duke and No. 13 Stanford lead the team race with opening rounds of 293 (+5). No. 1 USC and No. 18 Baylor share third place with rounds of 297 (+5). No 5 Arizona shot a 300 (+12) and is just seven strokes off the lead. No. 61 Mariah Stackhouse of Stanford is the individual leader with a 68 (-4).
No. 35 junior Lindsey Weaver paced the Cats with an even 72 on Friday. She sits in a tie for eighth place. No. 44 senior Manon Gidali, No. 67 freshman Krystal Quihuis and senior Kendall Prince all shot opening rounds of 76 (+4). They share a tie for 37th place.
