TUCSON, Ariz. – Fifth-seeded Arizona's women's golf season ended Tuesday with a 4-1 loss to fourth-seeded Stanford in the quarterfinals of match play at the NCAA Championships. On Monday, the fifth-ranked Wildcats finished fifth in stroke play to advance to match play.

 “I was very excited for the match play part because I didn't do very well in stroke play on this course, and growing up I'd been playing a lot of match play so I really know how to play that,” senior Manon Gidali said. “I thought we had a good chance today, and it was close. This is my last NCAA, and I'm pretty emotional because it's over. We knew stroke play wasn't the end, it was really just the qualifier. We were thinking step-by-step as a team.”

Senior Kendall Prince's match vs. Lauren Kim was the first to end in Stanford's favor. Kim topped Prince, 2 and 1. Senior Lindsey Weaver then fell to Mariah Stackhouse, 2 up.

Senior Manon Gidali secured Arizona's lone win of the match. She topped Quirine Eijkenboom, 3 and 1. Sophomore Wanasa Zhou pushed Stanford's Casey Danielson to 20 holes but fell by one. Freshman Krystal Quihuis' match vs. Shannon Aubert was called on the green of the eighth hole.

Stanford advanced to play USC in the semifinals of match play. On the other side of the bracket, Duke defeated Texas Tech, 4-1, and Baylor topped Tennessee, 3-1. Duke and Baylor will meet in the semifinals Tuesday afternoon, as well.
