Women?s Golf Finishes Second at Annika Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona women's golf team finished in second place at the Annika Intercollegiate Classic in Orlando, Fla., on Tuesday. The Wildcats moved up the leaderboard each day of the tournament, sitting in sixth after the opening day and third after Monday's round.
The Wildcats closed the tournament with a combined score of 284 for round three and a total of 851 to end the tournament.
Freshman Gigi Stoll had a strong last round, shooting a 3-under 69. She remained even or below par on all 18 holes. Her improvement and patience showed over the course of the three rounds as she jumped up 13 spots finishing tied for 16th place after round three.
"Gigi had an amazing first tournament," coach Laura Ianello said. "She was very happy with her results. Her putting was spectacular."
Senior Lindsey Weaver and Junior Wanasa Zhou had a solid performance throughout the tournament finishing tied for 9th, at 5-under par. Weaver recorded five birdies in the third round and stayed consistent at even or below par after hole one. She finished the final round 2-under par with a score of 70. Zhou struggled a bit in the front nine but was able to come back in the last nine, knocking down an eagle on No. 17. She shot a 33 on the back nine to shoot a 2-over 74.
Sophomore Krystal Quihuis finished tied for 19th with a score of 1-under 71. Sophomore Natalia Forero finished in 59th place. The Wildcats showed plenty of promise, playing in their 2015-16-season opener in front of former Arizona star Annika Sorenstam.
"The ladies had an awesome week against one of the best fields of the year," Ianello says. "We ended up second place behind a dominant USC. We look forward to going to Chicago next week to hopefully have another shot at victory."
Up next for the Wildcats is the Windy City Collegiate Classic in Evanston, Ill.. Oct. 5-6.
