Arizona Athletics held its inaugural 'Declare Your Major Day' on Sunday, Oct. 23 outside the Hall of Champions. The event was inspired by National Signing Day as sophomore student-athletes made their decisions on academic and career aspirations public. In order to participate, student-athletes had to submit a resume, write a purpose statement about their degree choice, and meet with an advisor about degree requirements. Two student-athletes, Matt Salerno from swimming and diving and Danielle Spencer from gymnastics, had the opportunity to declare their majors on stage in front of their peers, community leaders, coaches and athletics staff. The remainder of the 90 student-athletes that participated then visited a table where their selected college was represented to sign a certificate symbolizing their interest in pursuing that major. In total, 10 different colleges and 39 majors were represented.
