Quihuis Breaks Down Her Tools for Success

In The Bag With… Krystal Quihuis
Krystal Quihuis, a local product from Salpointe High School in Tucson, has started off the 2016-17 the way you'd expect – with success. Quihuis earned a tie for third at the Dick McGuire Invitational to begin her junior season.
The junior has already had a very successful career at Arizona, including being named the Pac-12 freshman of the year in her rookie campaign. She followed that up her sophomore season by earning four top 10 finishes through the year, and winning the Wildcat Invitational.
Here's a closer look at Quihuis.
Favorite Club: Putter. "This is the club that wins you tournaments and that separates yourself from the rest of the field".
Over the summer, Quihuis worked tirelessly on her putting, making adjustments such as the type of putter she plays with and her putting routine. She credits her dad and swing coach for helping her improve in this aspect of her game.
Favorite Golf Course: El Rio Golf Course. "This was the first course that I ever played, and has been my home course ever since my dad took me there at age 6."
Most Memorable Shot: Making a 35-foot putt on the 18th hole to win the Jr. Solheim Cup for the USA over Europe in 2013. The Jr. Solheim Cup is a team match play competition (similar to the Ryder Cup) that puts the 12 best junior golfers from the United States against Europe.
Golf Role Model: Lorena Ochoa. "When I was barley starting off playing golf I had the greatest opportunity to practice with Lorena Ochoa at the Practice Tee and it was the greatest dream a little girl could have. I respect her so much because she took the time out of her busy schedule to practice with me. If I ever have the chance to see her again I would tell her how much I appreciate what she did for me then."
Ochoa was a two-time NCAA Champion at the University of Arizona, and has earned over $14 million on the LPGA Tour over her career.

- Winning the Pac-12 Championships during her freshman year. In 2015 the Wildcats won the Pac-12 Championship at Boulder Country Club in Boulder, Colorado. The Cats took home the title shooting +1 as a team, Krystal finished tied for 28th.
- Wining her first individual tournament at the Wildcat Invitational last year at Sewailo Golf Course in Tucson. Quihuis finished the tournament at 7-under-par with rounds of 68, 71, and 70. The Wildcats also took first place in the team competition, shooting -7 as a team, and winning by 11 strokes.
Goals During This Season:
- Winning as many tournaments as possible and as a team.
- Maintaining a positive mindset throughout the season.
- Winning the Pac-12 Championships and the NCAA Championships.
