GymCats Announce Their 2017 Season Values
10/08/2016 | Gymnastics
TUCSON, ARIZ: - Each year the University of Arizona's Gymnastic team comes up with a team vision for that year. Essentially, they have a saying that helps to define their attitude toward the upcoming season. Last year, the team chose the phrase "Embrace the grind" which helped lead them to 2nd place in the first session of Pac-12 championships.
This year, the team sat down together and discussed what vision they had for the 2017 season. They agreed on the vision of #BeTrue and the four core values of trust, respect, unity, and equality (T-R-U-E). The GymCats defined each value differently.
For respect, they defined it as treating others how you think they want to be treated, and respecting the opinions of your teammates. When defining equality, senior Krysten Howard said, "Everyone has equal opportunity on the team, but everyone also has equal responsibility". The GymCats defined unity as staying connected with one another. Lastly trust was characterized as being transparent with one another, and never feeling like you need to hide your emotions from your teammates.
When asked how the team vision of #BeTrue will affect this upcoming 2017 season, Krysten said, "I think it will make us more of a family. It will ground us in something when things get hard, it's something that we can always come back to." Sophomore Danielle Spencer said, "It brings us closer than just a team."
As a team, the GymCats came up with these values by themselves, and it is a closer look into the personality that we should expect to see come the first home meet on January 6th.
"#BeTrue focuses on the team and staying together, we're focusing on how to make our family as strong as possible. When we're at our strongest together, the journey is more fulfilling."
