Haley Moore, a sophomore from Escondido, Calif. has started off the 2016 fall season in very strong form for the Arizona Wildcats.
She has two Top 3 finishes, as well as a tie for seventh and a tie for 12
th. According to Golfweek.com, Moore is the 12
th ranked female collegiate individual in the country. The ANNIKA Award for the best collegiate female has named Moore to its watch list.
Moore sat down with ArizonaWildcats.com to discuss her favorite memories as a golfer, and her game moving forward.
Favorite Club:
Driver "I like my driver because I can hit it very long off the tee and it gives me an advantage on longer holes."
Favorite course: "Eugene Country Club. It was home of the NCAA championships last year and I really loved how beautiful the course and how challenging it was to everyone's game."
Moore finished in a tie for second as a freshman last year in Eugene after rounds of 68-70-74-68. Moore's 8-under par finish for the tournament is her best score as a collegiate player.
Golf role model: "My golf role model would be Annika Sorenstam. She has made women's golf what it is today. I would love to follow her footsteps and one day shoot a 59. I also would also say my mom and dad for being my role models. They are always there for me through the good and the bad rounds, and always have supported me."
Former Wildcat Annika Sorenstam shot a 59 in March of 2001 in the second round of the Standard Register PING in Phoenix, Ariz. at Moon Valley Country Club. It is the record for the lowest scoring round ever in LPGA history.
Most memorable shot: "The most memorable shot I've ever hit was last year at the LPGA ANA Inspiration. I was on the 18th hole and was close to the cutline to play on the weekend. I had to hit my shot in between three palm tress with a four-foot gap to get on the green and make the putt. I pulled it off and was shaking when I hit it. I will never forget that shot."
The ANA Inspiration is one of five major championships on the LPGA Tour. Moore made the cut to finish tied for 67
th after rounds of 73-74-73-74. She had the lowest score of any amateur in the tournament.
Favorite golf memory: "My best golf memory so far was coming in second place last year at the NCAA Championships as a freshman after graduating high school a semester early to join this awesome program."
Goals moving forward: "My goals going forward are to continue my consistent play and finish every tournament inside the top 10. I would like to win a national championship both individually and as a team. As well as be an All-American and to be an Annika Award finalist."
Arizona women's golf will begin the spring season on Feb. 5-7 at the Northrop Grumman in Palos Verdes, Calif.
