Cats Pay Sin City a Non-Conference Visit

In addition to its annual March trip to Las Vegas for the Pac-12 Tournament, UA will spend Thanksgiving in Sin City.

LAS VEGAS – Arizona visits the home of the Pac-12 Tournament this week as it participates in the 2016 Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational. The Wildcats will play two games over Thanksgiving beginning first with the Broncos of Santa Clara on Thanksgiving Day.

  • The Wildcats enter their second neutral site of the season on the heels of a three-game home win streak. UA won the trio of games by an average margin of victory of 19.3 points per game. The bookend win of that home stand was Monday's 71-55 win over Northern Colorado. Arizona picked up the win thanks to double-doubles from Lauri Markkanen (17 points, 13 rebounds) and Parker Jackson-Cartwright (15 points and 11 assists).
  • Parker Jackson-Cartwright's efficiency at the point guard position is reflected in his 23 assists to five turnovers in four games this season, good for a 4.6 assist-to-turnover ratio. Those numbers become even more staggering over his last two games with 15 assists and one turnover in wins over Sacred Heart and Northern Colorado.
  • A byproduct of Jackson-Cartwright's play has been a minimal amount of turnovers by Arizona in its last two games. The Wildcats have a total of 13 turnovers in versus Sacred Heart and Northern Colorado. The duo of games marked the first time UA has had back-to-back games of seven turnovers or less since the 2014 NCAA Tournament. This came after recording 27 turnovers against Michigan State and Cal State Bakersfield in the two games prior.
  • Arizona will face Jared Brownridge and the Santa Clara Broncos for a second consecutive season. The two programs met in last year's Wooden Legacy in Los Angeles, and Brownridge scored 44 points in Arizona's 75-73 overtime win. The 44 points were the second most scored against an Arizona team under Sean Miller, behind Jimmer Fredette's 49 points in December of 2009.
  • The ties between Santa Clara head coach Herb Sendek and Sean Miller go back to 1993. Miller spent seven season as an assistant coach on Sendek's staffs at Miami (Ohio) and NC State. Miller and Sendek would spend six seasons from 2009 to 2015 as in-state rivals at Arizona and Arizona State. The Wildcats and Sun Devils met 12 times with UA owning an 8-4 edge in those games. Arizona assistant coach Mark Phelps also spent a decade as a member of Sendek's staffs at NC State and Arizona State.
  • In addition to holding one of the highest home court winning percentages in the nation, Arizona has shown a knack for continuing its winning ways outside of Tucson. Since Sean Miller's arrival prior to the 2009-10 season, the Wildcats have posted a record of 81-49 (.623) away from McKale Center. That mark improves to 34-18 (.654) at neutral site locations. UA's records in the last three season are 41-17 (.707) outside of Tucson and 19-6 (.760) in neutral sites.
