Next Up For Arizona Is Texas Southern in McKale Center

After a pair of games in Las Vegas over Thanksgiving, UA returns home to face TSU.

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Wildcats wrapped up their four games in seven days last week in Las Vegas and return to McKale Center with four days of rest. Arizona's midweek game with Texas Southern begins a familiar scheduling pattern. For the rest of non-conference play, UA will always play midweek games in Tucson and weekend games on the road.

  • Arizona returns home after splitting its two games in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational last week. The Wildcats defeated Santa Clara, 69-61, on Thanksgiving Day thanks to 30 points from the duo of Lauri Markkanen and Kobi Simmons. UA also held a 23-2 advantage in bench scoring over the Broncos. Arizona dropped a 69-65 decision to Butler the next day in a game that featured 11 lead changes and nine scoring ties.
  • UA returns to Tucson where it has won its last 36 non-conference games in McKale Center. Arizona has won 58 of its last 59 home games with a mark of 111-12 (.902) inside McKale Center under head coach Sean Miller.
  • Parker Jackson-Cartwright finished the Wildcats' trip to Las Vegas with eight assists versus the Butler Bulldogs to give him 13 assists to five turnovers for the trip to Sin City. The junior point guard has 16 games of five assists or more in his career.
  • Coach Sean Miller and the Wildcats will face Texas Southern after four days of rest on the heels of a stretch that saw them play four games in seven days. Excluding season openers, Arizona has won 47 of its last 60 games (.783) following at least four days of rest from the previous game.
  • The two teams last met in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament in the Moda Center in Portland, Ore. The Wildcats took home the 93-72 victory thanks to a double-double from Rondae Hollis-Jefferson of 23 points and ten rebounds on efficient seven of nine shooting from the field. All five UA starters scored at least ten points in the win.
  • History has been kind to the Wildcats when it comes to much-needed home games. Since 2010, Arizona is 13-1 in home games immediately following a loss away from Tucson.
  • Freshman Lauri Markkanen entered the week averaging 18.2 points per game while shooting 50.8 percent from the field and 91.7 percent from the free throw line. According to KenPom.com, the 7-foot forward ranks eighth in the nation in offensive efficiency rating for all players with at least 20% of possessions used.
