TUCSON, Ariz. – Senior diver, Rafael Quintero qualified for the 2016 Puerto Rican Olympic Team at the FINA Diving World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Tuesday during the men's 10-meter platform preliminaries.

Quintero finished eighth overall in the prelims, scoring 425.20. Finishing in the top-18 of the prelims automatically qualifies a diver for the Olympics. Quintero continues competition in the platform semifinal on Wednesday.

The senior is the fifth diver in Arizona history to make it to the Olympics. He is only the second male to qualify, the first being Jimmy Sjodin, who competed in the 10-meter platform and springboard for Sweden.

He swept the Wildcat Diving Invitational, posting a score of 431.05 in the platform, and also had first-place finishes against No. 2 California and No. 5 Stanford in both the 1-meter and 3-meter.
