Arizona Completes Season after NCAA Championships

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona women's golf team completed their season on Monday, at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. The Wildcats finished in a tie for ninth place, missing the match-play competition by one stroke. The team now looks back on a rewarding season and celebrates the success of its senior Lindsey Weaver.
Weaver spent three seasons with the Wildcats after completing a season with Notre Dame her freshman year. She competed in 105 rounds of golf and 34 tournaments for Arizona, and maintained a stroke average of 72.75 during her career. She holds the third-lowest, 18-hole record for a Wildcat at 67, and the second-lowest 54-hole record at 206. She captured 16 top-10 finishes and 20 top-20 finishes, with one individual championship and four runner-up spots. Weaver earned two second-team All-America honors from the WGCA, one Golfweek second-team All-America honor, an All-Pac-12 first-team honor, a Pac-12 All-Academic second-team honor, and an All-Region honor.
Juniors Jessica Vasilic and Wanasa Zhou will fill the senior spots after Weaver's departure. Vasilic had a strong season, competing in 10 of the Wildcats 12 tournaments and earning a 73.42 stroke average. Her low round of 67 matched the third-best 18-hole score by a Wildcat, and she finished the year with three top-10 finishes and four top-20s. Her best tournament was at the Windy City Classic, where she earned a 209 (-7) and captured a share of second place. Vasilic was awarded Pac-12 All-Academic first team for the 2015-16 season, and was also extended an invitation to the NCAA's 2016 Career in Sports, a forum for student-athlete leaders who are interested in a career in sports.
Zhou started well for the Wildcats this season before suffering a season-ending injury prior to the postseason competitions. Zhou competed in eight tournaments and maintained a 74.25 stroke-average over the course of the season, capturing two top-10 finishes and two top-20 finishes. Her best tournament came at the Windy City Classic, where she carded a 212 (-4) and a share of sixth place. Similar to Vasilic, Zhou was awarded Pac-12 All-Academic first team for the season.
Sophomore Krystal Quihuis had her best season to date, and was a clear leader for the Wildcats at different points throughout the year. She competed in almost every tournament for the Cats at 11 tournaments and earned a stroke average of 73.00. She managed to earn four top-10 spots and seven top-20 spots, with one individual championship at the Arizona Intercollegiate. She was awarded an All-Region honor from the Bryan Regional this season.
Freshman Gigi Stoll had a powerful rookie season with Arizona, where she competed in 10 tournaments. She maintained a stroke average of 74.16 over the course of the season, and had one top-10 finish and five top-20s. Her best tournament came at the NCAA Regionals, where she carded a 218 (+2) and tied for eighth place out of 18 of the country's best teams.
Freshman Haley Moore had a breakout first semester in Tucson. After graduating from high school a semester early in order to start competing for Arizona, she was the youngest player on the team and arguably one of their greatest assets. She competed in seven tournaments and earned a stroke average of 72.72. She had three top-10 finishes, including a tie for second at the NCAA Championships, and her low 18-hole score of 66 is the second-lowest round by a Wildcat and the best score by a Wildcat at the Pac-12 championships.
Sophomore Natalia Forero competed in two of the Wildcats tournaments this year alongside freshmean Danielle Lee. Arizona considers both players to be a significant part of the team dynamic and contributors to the spirit and success of the organization.
