Cats to Compete in NCAA Bryan Regional

Tucson, Ariz. - The Arizona women's golf team will head to Bryan, Texas to compete in the NCAA Bryan Regional, beginning Thursday. Arizona will be joined by 17 other teams from across the nation, including Pac-12 rival UCLA. The five Wildcats scheduled to compete in the team competition are Haley Moore, Jessica Vasilic, Gigi Stoll, Krystal Quihuis and Lindsey Weaver.
The tournament, which is being hosted by Texas A&M, will be played at the Traditions Golf Club, a par-72, 6,373-yard course. Teams will play 54 holes, 18 on each day. The low four scores from each round will compose the team score.
Last year at the NCAA Regionals in South Bend, Ind., Arizona placed fourth led by returning senior Weaver. Weaver tied for third place in the competition, finishing at one-under par after three rounds. The Wildcats are hoping to improve upon last year's finish, this year slotted as a number three seed in the competition. Quihuis is the team's other returning competitor, last year having finished in a tie for 34th with cumulative rounds of nine-over. Arizona will look to these two to lead the team in this year's competition.
“I know the ladies will do really well,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “We need to be able to manage our nerves a little bit better, I think we got off to a rocky start that day at conference, something I wasn't really prepared for. Moving forward, now the ladies know what it's like to be in contention and have a chance to win. The ladies are excited to have a chance to go to regionals, and off to nationals hopefully, and prove to everyone how strong we are.”
Moore, Vasilic, and Stoll will also be important to the team's success this week. Moore is coming off a great finish in the Pac-12s, where she tied a school record by notching a six-under 66 in the first round of the tournament. This lead her to a top-ten finish, her first on the season. Vasilic and Stoll both captured a share of the top-30 spots at the conference championships. Low rounds from them could lead to a strong performance for the Cats overall.
