The University of Arizona has a storied history with the Olympic games. Starting with the 1952 games and prior to this summer's Rio Olympics, 113 Wildcats, 60 men and 53 women, have made 178 appearances and competed in 264 events in the Olympics. This group has secured 73 medals, 35 gold, 24 silver, and 14 bronze.


A Wildcat has appeared in every Summer Olympics, besides the 1956 games, since 1952. Arizona's largest contingent came at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where 28 Wildcats competed in 45 different events. Men's swimming has had the largest representation as 28 Wildcats have competed in 95 events. Swimming also leads the way on the women's side as 20 Cats have appeared in 54 events.
