TUCSON, Ariz. – Junior Chris Wieser and Sophomore Katrina Konopka were named to the USA Swimming 2016-17 National Team, announced on Thursday. Former Wildcat and recent Olympian, Kevin Cordes was also named on the roster.

Wieser landed on the National Team in the 1,500 free after competing in the event finals at the 2016 Olympic Trials (15:09.70).

Last year, Wieser received All-America honors in the 1,650 free after finishing seventh at the NCAA Championships. He currently holds top-ten all-time performances in three events.

Konopka is a member of the women's roster in the 50 free after swimming in the finals at the Olympic Trials (24.68).

Last season, Konopka earned three All-America honors in addition to being named a CSCAA Scholar All-American and holding three top-ten all-time top times. The swimmer finished 18th in the 50 free at the NCAA Championships.

After qualifying for the Olympics, Cordes was named to the National Team in the 100 breast (58.94) and 200 breast (2:07.81), his fastest times coming in the semifinals of both events at the Olympic Trials.

At the 2016 Olympics, Cordes earned a gold medal as a member of the 4x100m medley relay. In his Olympic debut, the swimmer also placed fourth in the 100m breast and eighth in the 200m breast.

In order to qualify for the USA National Team, a swimmer must have one of the sixth-fastest times from the 2016 Olympic Trials, Olympic Games or U.S. Open. Times are used from the preliminary, semifinal or final of an event. Relays, time trials and swim-offs are not included.
