BERKELEY, Calif. – On Sunday afternoon in Haas Pavilion, the California Golden Bears (15-5, 3-5 Pac-12) defeated the Arizona Wildcats (11-8, 2-6 Pac-12) by a score of 71-60.

Malena Washington led Arizona as she scored 17 points, had four rebounds and also dished out four assists. Washington has scored in double-figures in every game but two this season. Additionally, she has hit double-figures in 12-straight games.

LaBrittney Jones once again scored well for the Wildcats as she poured in 15 points while grabbing six rebounds. The senior also had three assists, two steals and one block. Jones has scored in double-figures in six-straight games and nine of the last 11 as well.

JaLea Bennett hit double-figures today for the first time since Dec.13 as she scored 11 today in 15 minutes off the bench.

California outscored Arizona 57-43 after going down three at the end of the first quarter. As a team, the Golden Bears shot 47% from the field and forced the Wildcats to 41% shooting. The Golden Bears were particularly efficient in the second half as they shot 56% from the field in the final 20 minutes of the game. Cal's Asha Thomas led all scorers with 24 points.

Arizona got off to a good start as the Wildcats led 17-14 after 10 minutes of action. Jones and Washington each had seven points. California would win the second quarter 13-11, which would give Arizona a 28-27 lead going into halftime.

Cal did well to take the lead in the third quarter as they won the period 19-10, which made the score 46-38 in favor of Cal heading into the fourth quarter. The Golden Bears would hang on in the fourth quarter behind 70% shooting as they won the fourth quarter 25-22.
Arizona will hit the road again next weekend as they will face the L.A. schools in the City of Angels. First up will be USC on Friday, Jan. 27 at 8 p.m. MST at the Galen Center.
