Cats Host Huskies In Sunday Afternoon Showdown

Wildcats will look to defend their 13-game winning streak against Washington.

TUCSON, Ariz. – It's a Sunday afternoon Pac-12 battle in McKale Center when the visiting Washington Huskies visit Tucson. Sunday's nationally-televised showdown on FOX is the second game of the week as the Wildcats dispatched the Washington State Cougars 79-62 on Thursday evening.

  • UA's current 13-game winning streak is the fourth longest active streak in the nation and the fourth best of the Sean Miller era of Arizona Basketball (2009-10 to present). The Wildcats' 13 consecutive wins trail only Gonzaga (21), New Mexico State (17) and Oregon (17) in longest active winning streaks in NCAA Division I.
  • Arizona opened its week with a 79-62 victory over the Washington State Cougars on Thursday. Lauri Markkanen recorded the third double-double of his career with 16 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Wildcats. The Finnish freshman was supported by Allonzo Trier who scored a team-high 17 points while dishing out a career-high seven assists. Trier's effective passing was part of the guard trio of he, Parker Jackson-Cartwright and Kadeem Allen who combined for 16 assists and just four turnovers.
  • Head coach Sean Miller enters Sunday's game in search of his 100th conference win at the helm of the Arizona Basketball program. Miller is 99-35 in Pac-12 games, winning 73.9 percent of them.
  • Sophomore Allonzo Trier has tallied 11 assists to just two turnovers in his last two games. The most assists he had in back-to-back games as a freshman was five on two separate occasions.
  • The McKale Center home court advantage for the Wildcats has seen 17 consecutive home wins and 66 wins in the last 67 games in Tucson. Since the start of the 2013-14 season, Arizona is 63-1 (.984) at home (30-1 in Pac-12 home games). UA's all-time record in the building is 572-103 (.845) since it opened during the 1972-73 season.
  • Arizona committed just nine turnovers versus Washington State following its seven-turnover performance at No. 3 UCLA. It marked the first time this season the Wildcats have committed fewer than ten turnovers in back-to-back games this season.
  • Sunday afternoon's meeting marks the sixth day game of the season for Arizona with a record of 4-1 in the previous five early games. UA is 60-21 (.740) in day games under head coach Sean Miller.
