Cats Finish Up Fall Exhibition Weekend

The 2017-18 Arizona beach volleyball team got its first taste of competition this weekend at Bear Down Beach, where the Wildcats welcomed Arizona State and Grand Canyon for the two-day event.
Coach Steve Walker states, "As a whole, I felt that these were great competitive repetitions that you just can't duplicate in practice. We saw two entirely different styles of play across the net, and I think that was an invaluable experience for our players. Now, we have the opportunity to learn from this, grow from it, and we'll need to...We'll have to put in some time here, in the video room, and also on the practice court, so we can rectify some of the issues that we're having right now."
UA welcomed the Sun Devils and Antelopes for the exhibition tournament in preparation for UA's spring schedule, which will get underway in February.
Junior defender Mia Mason comments, "Friday against ASU was a good day. It's always fun to beat ASU at home. I think it was a good game for us. We kind of imposed our will on ASU.Today against GCU, it was more of a scrappy day. At the beginning of the day, we fell into their traps. Then by the end of the day, we started playing our own game.It was a long day in the heat, but it was a good one."
The Wildcats hosted ASU Friday evening and Grand Canyon on Saturday morning. The Wildcats will meet GCU again Saturday, November 4 in Phoenix and Sunday, November 5 in Glendale. The competing teams include Arizona, GCU, UCLA, USC, and ASU on Sunday.
