Arizona Gymnastics Welcomes Four to the Class of 2022

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Arizona gymnastics family grew a little bigger as Kennedi Davis, Asia Rose DuVernay, MacKinzie Kane, and Alivia Kendrick signed their National Letters of Intent to join the GymCats in the fall of 2018.
 
"We are very excited to welcome Kennedi, Asia, Mackinzie, Aliva and their families to our program and university," said head coach John Court. "They have all demonstrated an unwavering desire to be at Arizona throughout this process and we are looking forward to growing our program with them as they excel academically, athletically, and socially throughout their careers."

Kennedi Davis joins the Wildcats from Blue Springs, Mo., where she competed with Fusion Gymnastics under head coaches Mike Heredia, Jackie (Flanery) Heredia, and Hayden Ward. In 2015 and 2016 Davis placed first at the Missouri State Championships, and she is a three-time Junior Olympic National Qualifier (2015-2017). Her career high scores are: Vault – 9.80; Balance Beam – 9.675; and Floor – 9.50. Davis will graduate with the class of 2022 and hopes to major in biology or psychology.
 
"I choose Arizona because I fell in love with the coaches, the team, and the community," said Davis. "From the moment I stepped on campus it felt like home to me. I plan on brining my love and determination for this sport to the team as well as my competitive spirit. I can't wait to be able to represent Arizona!"
 
"I have enjoyed getting to know Kennedi during the recruiting process and was impressed with our recent evaluation of her," said assistant coach Dianna Ranelli. "Her smile and love for gymnastics combined with her explosive power and artistic lines will be a great asset to our program "

A native of Harsens Island, Mich., Asia Rose DuVernay is currently at Gedderts' Twisters USA under coaches John and Kathryn Geddert. In 2015 DuVernay was the Region 5 Vault Champion, Region 5 Silver Medalist, and the Michigan Vault and Floor Champion. Her career high scores are: Vault – 9.775; Uneven Bars – 9.55; Balance Beam – 9.325; Floor – 9.725; and All-Around – 37.625. DuVernay plans to receive a bachelor's degree in business and hopes to minor in journalism. After graduation, she wants to attend law school with dreams of becoming a lawyer.
 
"I am looking forward to all of the new experiences that collegiate gymnastics will bring and being able to be part of a new family," said DuVernay. "I chose Arizona because from the moment I met the team and coaches I knew they truly cared about me and I immediately felt part of the family."
 
"Asia brings us four events as an athlete and is also an excellent student," said head coach John Court. "She is a powerful athlete on vault and floor and joins fellow GymCat alums Jamie Duce, Breanne Workman, and Amber Womba who also trained at her gym and were fantastic Wildcats"

MacKinzie Kane was a Tucson native until the age of 14 when she moves to Gilbert, Ariz.. Now as a Wildcat, she returns home. For the past four years Kane has competed with Carter's Gymnastics Academy under head coaches Jack and Erin Carter. In 2016 Kane earned 2nd place on the Region 1 Uneven Bars competition, and in 2017 she became the Region 1 Uneven Bars Champion. She comes to Arizona as a specialist on bars, having a career high score of 9.85.
 
"I have always dreamed of becoming a GymCat and competing in front of my hometown with a crowd filled with my family and friends," said Kane. " I look forward to wearing the "A" with pride, representing the University of Arizona, and becoming a part of the Arizona gymnastics family."
 
"It's been a pleasure getting to know Mackinzie during my time at Arizona," said associate head coach David McCreary. "I believe she has the ability to be a top level bar worker on the college scene and it's great to have another Tucsonan on the roster"

Alivia Kendrick joins the GymCats from Springboro, Ohio where she trained under head coach Enrique Trabanino at Perfection Gymnastics School. In 2017 Kendrick was the Ohio Floor Champion, and she currently holds career highs of 9.55 on the balance beam and 9.60 on floor. While at Arizona, she plans to study sports medicine and entrepreneurship.
 
"I chose Arizona because as soon as I stepped foot in the gym I instantly fell in love with the program and the team," said Kendrick. "I'm super excited to be able to compete at a collegiate level, and to make it even better I get to do it at my dream school."
 
"Alivia is a great fit for us," said head coach John Court. "She will be able to come in and make an impact on her strongest events right away and she adds quality depth to our roster."
