That's What She Set: Q&A with Mia Mason

Mia stands as an outgoing and hardworking Sand Cat ready to bring the heat. Last year she competed in the #4 position for the Wildcats and held a strong record of 9-4. She also attended the first ever NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships in Alabama where the Wildcats won in the first round against Georgia State. This year, she comes back focused and ready for a new and successful season.

After overcoming adversity, Mia is ready to hit the sand running. Even as a quicker defender and improved attacker, she aims to find balance and thrive. She never fails to display great leadership for she was the captain of her high school's volleyball team, and she currently stands as a positive force on the team supporting them on and off the court.

ArizonaWildcats.com sat down with sophomore Mia Mason to learn more about what she has been working on.

Q: How has your transition been from freshman to sophomore year?

A: It's been a smooth transition. Going into class relating to my major is making class more fun and interesting. With regard to volleyball, I am still learning and improving in different aspects.

Q: What are you looking forward to this season?
A: I am looking forward to going to Alabama. Hopefully we make it there, and then this Pac-12 tournament we are hosting at home will be fun. It will be fun to have all of the schools here in Tucson. We'll see what we have to show.

Q: Where have you improved?
A: I have become a faster defender. My attacking has improved as well.

Q: What are some personal improvements that you would like to make?
A: I have been working on my attacking, still. I can never stop working on that in addition to keeping the ball in front of me when I am hitting. Also, making sure I am stopped when on defense and ready to move and chase the ball.

Q: What are your team goals?
A: We would love to go to Alabama and do well there.

Q: What is your earliest volleyball memory?
A: In 12s wearing the turtle shell kneepads and crazy colored spandex would be my earliest memory.
