Pasternack Leaves Staff; Takes Over UC Santa Barbara Program

After six seasons as a part of Sean Miller's staff at Arizona, Joe Pasternack has left to be the head coach at UC Santa Barbara.

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona associate head coach Joe Pasternack has left the program after accepting the head coach position at the UC Santa Barbara after six seasons as a member of head coach Sean Miller's staff.

"Joe Pasternack is as talented of an assistant coach that I have worked with during my 13 years as a head coach," said head coach Sean Miller. "He positively impacted our program at Arizona at every level. His recruiting ability, on-the-floor coaching and game planning was matched only by his relentless, competitive spirit every day. As a head coach, he will passionately build UCSB into the champions of the Big West Conference in a matter of time. We wish Joe and his wonderful family all the success in the world! We will miss them here in Tucson."

Pasternack's tenure in Tucson saw the Wildcats make the NCAA Tournament in each of the past five seasons, advancing to a pair of Sweet 16's and a pair of Elite Eight's. UA won 174 games with Pasternack as part of the staff in those six seasons, which is good for an average win total of 29.0 games per season. Arizona also had six NBA draft picks during that span, including four first round selections in Solomon Hill (23rd overall), Aaron Gordon (4th overall), Stanley Johnson (8th overall) and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (23rd overall).

The Wildcats won three Pac-12 regular season championships and two conference tournament titles while Pasternack was a member of the staff. The program has been ranked in every Associated Press poll since the start of the 2012-13 season while amassing recruiting classes ranked in the top seven in the nation in each of those six seasons with four ranking in the top five.
